JAKARTA - South China Sea conflict (LCS) into a warm section issues discussed. This follows China's claim over various areas actually belonged to other countries. The claims were eventually sparked protests from various countries such as Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia.

Because based on the provisions contained in the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), the boundaries of each country have been defined in the convention, and the LCS area should not be directly claimed entirely by China.

To resolve conflicts that have occurred in the sea area, the Dutch Embassy in collaboration with the Research Center for ASEAN (CSEAS) held ASEAN dialogue that addresses international maritime law on March 17, 2016 in Jakarta. The event was attended by 150 delegates from various circles both the Government of Indonesia, delegates embassies, local and foreign media and a number of researchers.

During this time, China claimed LCS as a legitimate part of their territory. China believes the region is a treasure of heritage based on historical narration.

Claims related to the Bamboo Curtain country, Dr. Iur. Damos Dumoli Agusman, Director General Secretary Law and International Treaties, Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that if during this China claims LCS based on historical stories, then Indonesia is also entitled to make the claim.

As known, the kingdom of Srivijaya empire stretched to various countries including Malaysia, Cambodia, and Thailand. If it refers to the historical stories that then Indonesia is also entitled to claim the territory of another country at this time. But, because the boundaries have been stipulated in the UN Convention on marine known as UNCLOS, then Indonesia is no longer entitled to claim the area.

However, the delegates agreed to give priority to dialogue as an alternative solution LCS conflict resolution in the region as mentioned by Prof. Dr. Robert Beckmen, Director of the International Law Center of NUS Singapore and Dr. Arif Havas Oegrosono of Deputy Coordinating Minister of maritime RI.
