"Under the terms of the (agreement) Visiting Forces, there will be no permanent facilities. A depot depot with another name. This is a permanent structure to house the weapons. I do not even know if there was (missiles) nuclear now, they dismantle it, "Duterte said, as quoted by IB Times, Monday (01/30/2017).
His comments came after the Pentagon expressed approval for use of a new warehouse, runways and barracks to store weapons in the three provinces in the Philippines under a defense treaty between the two countries. Duterte accused the government of violating the agreement by Donald Trump to build weapons in the country.
The agreement with the official name "Enhanced Defense Cooperation" signed by the US and the Philippines in 2014. The Philippines understands the agreement allowing the US to deploy equipment in its territory only for humanitarian missions or maritime security operations. However, according to Duterte, the US used the treaty to the rotation of warships and combat aircraft at five bases or military bases.
Duterte threatened to review the agreement even if the need to cancel. Philippine leaders felt could do with an executive order.
"You are inciting us, encouraging us to mamaksakan enforcement of the arbitral award," Duterte said, referring to US pressure on the Philippines to enforce the decision of the Court of Arbitration in The Hague in July 2016 canceling China's claim over the disputed region in the South China Sea.
