Waking Hallways And Tunnels, ISIS Prepares For War Close Up

BAGHDAD - Militants ISIS is building a tunnel in the hallways and narrow alleys in western Mosul. Tunnels and hallways that serves to hide and allow them to fight amid civilians as Iraqi forces launch an attack.

Locals said the militants ISIS has unraveled the inner walls between houses to enable them to move from block to block, disappeared after running a hit and run tactics, and track the movements of government troops.

They have also made sniper holes in the buildings overlooking the river Tingris which divides the city into east and west.

"They made a hole and threatened us not to hinder them," said one resident by telephone who asked for his identity concealed, as quoted by Reuters on Saturday (02/18/2017).

ISIS headquarters in western Mosul was under siege, along with about 650 thousand civilians. ISIS increasingly cornered backed Iraqi troops after the United States (US) seized a number of areas in the first phase of the attack for four weeks.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi in a meeting of the commanders of the armed forces say attacks to seize Mosul could begin.
