WWIII - BEIJING ( AFP), China's Defense Ministry announced that the Beijing military successfully tested new missile shells into Bohai Bay near the Korean Peninsula. The new missile test was launched amid Chinese outrage over the deployment of THAAD US missile defense system in South Korea.

The ministry said on Wednesday that a missile test was conducted recently in Bohai Bay and achieved the expected results. Not explained details of the type of missile tested and the test date.

Bohai Bay lies to the west of the Yellow Sea, which separates China from the Korean Peninsula.

China's defense ministry last month vowed to continue testing new types of weapons under conditions that simulate real warfare.

Hong Kong Phoenix military expert and commentator Song Zhongping said the fired weapons were probably a medium-range DF-26 missile. The missile was developed to sink a warship, including the US aircraft carrier. According to Song, Bohai Bay is the preferred location for such missile tests as it is the territorial waters of China.

The DF-26 missile, Song said, could be useful against US THAAD. China also has several other missiles that suit its job.

"It does not have much to do with THAAD in person, but this is a kind of warning to South Korea and the US," Song said.

Beijing has repeatedly opposed the deployment of the US High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile system in South Korea. The reason, the advanced missile system radar was allegedly able to peek far into China. This allows the US and its allies to easily detect rocket launch and movement of Beijing aircraft.

Washington claims the spread of the THAAD missile system to fortify South Korea from North Korea's ballistic missile attacks.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said on Wednesday that China had no intention of softening its opposition.

"China's position on the THAAD issue is clear and consistent. We hope South Korea can pay attention to China's problems and deal with relevant issues in the right way, "said Geng, quoted by Defense News on Thursday (5/11/2017).
