(WW3) - Maj. Gen. Esmail Ghaani, Qassem Soleimani's successor as Commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IGRC) Corps Guards Corps, promised equal retribution for the killing of his colleague.

Esmail Ghaani was appointed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei shortly after Qassem was killed in Baghdad by US military missiles on Friday (1/3/2020).

Ghaani and Soleimani are comrades in arms since the Iraq-Iran war (1980-1988) ..

In his statement, Ghaani mentioned the very long and sad consequences of the killing.

"We tell everyone, be patient and you will see corpses of Americans throughout the Middle East," Ghaani was quoted as saying by Al-Jazeera and Sputniknews.com on Saturday (01/04/2020).

The statement came after Iran's Ambassador to the United Nations Majid Takht Ravanchi asked the UN Security Council to condemn what he called "criminal acts" and "state terrorism" by the US.

In his statement, what the US did according to Ravanchi resulted in a "terrible murder" of Qassem Soleimani.

Ravanchi highlighted Soleimani's "important role" in helping a number of countries fight and defeat the "most dangerous terrorist group in the world", including Daesh or ISIS.

According to him, the US air strike that killed Soleimani clearly denied the US claim that they were actually fighting terrorism. US National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien, in another statement warned that Tehran's retaliation for Qassem Soleimani's death would be a very bad decision.

Although not showing a condemnation or harsh condemnation of the US military operation against Qassem Soleimani, Chairman of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee Eliot Engel, said Trump did not ask Congress for approval before attacking.

In contrast, Eliot Engel instead described Qassem Soleimani as the mastermind of extraordinary violence that endangered US interests.

According to Engel, Trump's executive decision without congressional approval could lead to serious legal problems and insult Congress as an equivalent branch of power in the US government.

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, condemned the killing of Soleimani as an act of international terrorism.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has warned that hard retaliation is waiting, and all enemies must know that jihad against the United States will multiply.

Latest Attack

The latest development after the assassination of Qassem Soleimani, Aljazeera television station Saturday morning reported continued air strikes north of Baghdad, Iraq.

The location of the attack was said to be near a military base used by British and Italian troops.

According to Aljazeera reporters in Baghdad, Osama bin Javaid, said the target of the attack was the convoy of vehicles belonging to the Hasd al-Shaabi group or the Iraqi PMU.

The Associated Press news agency quoted its source as saying there were five people killed in this fighter plane attack.
