Indonesia - Russia Holds War Training In The Java Sea

The Russian Ambassador in Jakarta, Lyudmila Georgievna Vorobieva, said she would hold joint exercises with the navy with Indonesia around the end of 2020 in the Java Sea.

Vorobieva said the military exercises were aimed at strengthening defense cooperation and the level of trust between the two countries.

"Honestly, I do not know the details, but (the exercise) was carried out around the Java Sea," Vorobieva told reporters at a press conference at his office on Wednesday (12/2).

"I also only know that (the training) will be conducted around the end of this year with not a large capacity of personnel," he added.
According to him, Russia will not deploy aircraft carriers in joint training later this year. Russia will send two or three warships to the Java Sea to join the exercise. He said the joint military exercise was part of strengthening cooperation between the two countries at the age of 70 years of bilateral relations which fell this year.

In the defense sector, the two countries plan to hold more than 40 events. In addition to military exercises with Indonesia, Russia will also hold military exercises with ASEAN. Vorobieva called this an ordinary military exercise that Russia had done with other countries before. Russia, he explained, will also provide scholarships for TNI personnel to train at their military education sites their military education.
